PlantNative shares plant information for general awareness and education. Please read and keep the following in mind.
Guidance, not a ruling
Whether a plant is native or invasive can depend on the region and can change as new research and government notifications appear. A species that is a problem in one state may be managed differently in another. Treat everything here as a helpful starting point, not the final word.
Photo identification is a best guess
The photo tool uses the third-party Pl@ntNet service to suggest a likely species. It can be wrong, especially with unclear photos or closely related plants. Always cross-check the result with the plant's page and, when it matters, a knowledgeable person.
Before you plant or remove anything
For any significant planting, avenue project, farm or campus drive, or before removing an existing plant, confirm with your State Forest Department, a local nursery expert, or a qualified botanist. Some species are legally protected and some invasives require careful, approved removal methods.
